Provide a little introduction about yourself...where are you from?

Hi! I'm Abby and I am from a small rural college town upstate called Alfred, NY (an hour and a half from Rochester, two hours away from Buffalo). I've moved around quite a bit growing up. My hometown is Oakland, California but I spent most of my childhood in Seattle, Washington. I lived in Pittsburgh for five years and then moved to Alfred during my last year of middle school. I completed two years of undergraduate at UB through the Early Assurance Program (2+4).

What are your hobbies?

Watching soccer (European football mainly), love me some K-pop

What are your career goals?

My biggest aspiration in pharmacy is to specialize in infectious diseases and work in an inpatient setting. I've always wanted to travel to other developing countries (especially the Philippines where my family is from) and treat communities that don't have as much access to quality health care services. I'm also really interested in neglected tropical diseases and how to treat people with those conditions which is why I want to specialize in infectious diseases.

What did you accomplish in your P1 year? What do you hope to accomplish by the time you graduate?

I'm surviving my P1 year lol. I have two liaison positions in AMCP and SNPhA. I hope to use this as a way to move up within the organization and take on a bigger role to plan and initiate events related to outreach, education, and service. By the time I graduate, I would like to have maybe one travel abroad experience, publish at least one scientific paper, and become a lot more comfortable with communicating in general.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone to prepare for pharmacy school?

Don't beat yourself up over one bad grade. You have a really long four years (or more) ahead of you and take each day at a time. Never be afraid to ask other people and your classmates for help. Talk to as many people as you can so that you can build lasting connections for your career.
