Ngan Nguyen

Provide a little introduction about yourself, where are you from?

Hi! My name is Ngan (Knee-gan) Nguyen (Nu-ween). I am currently a second year Pharmacy Student at UB. I was born in Vietnam but came to America when I was 5 years old. From then on, I've lived in Brooklyn, NY, my entire life. I completed my bachelors degree at Hunter College before coming to pharmacy school, majoring in Biochemistry with a focus in Physics.

What are your hobbies?

Recently I have discovered my new found joy in baking sweets and feeding them to people. When I'm not giving people diabetes, I just like cruising through YouTube and watching game play-thrus. I also like watching movies and tv shows, so I'll marathon through several episodes and this may go on for days. Not a single minute wasted in my opinion.

Where do you hope to be after you are finished with pharmacy school?

Right now I am still unsure. Before starting pharmacy school, I was almost entirely sure that I would end up working for a community chain pharmacy. But through many of the experiential rotations, I have found interests in inpatient settings and even ambulatory care. Right now, I would like to keep all my options open, whether it be working in community or completing a residency in another state. My future is not so set in stone and I predict that with each experiential rotation, I'll find new interests that will shape my career path.

What did you accomplish at the end of your P1 year?

Before starting pharmacy school, I was really nervous about moving away from home and starting anew in another city. I was worried that I wouldn't make friends and that I wouldn't find my niche. Most importantly, I was worried that I wouldn't find pharmacy to be all that interesting. But I was able to overcome all of those fears. I found an amazing group of friends, within and outside of LKS. They have given me the strength to push past my comfort zone and go for things I never thought was possible. Because of their guidance, I was able to become Membership Coordinator for LKS 2018-2019.

One piece of advice that you would give to someone preparing for pharmacy school.

There's nothing quite like pharmacy school. No amount of preparation could ever get you ready for pharmacy, to be honest. Just come prepared to learn.
